Coincidence! Mystery! Conspiracy!

By Carol Jenkner

When events occur at the same time, but miles apart, we have been conditioned by literature and movies to wonder if they are related.

For example: June 1841 a man named W. D. Silver was killed and buried north of Larned, Kansas. A sandstone marker was carved and left to mark his passing. Who was he? Why was he there? Where was he from?

June 19, 1841, many miles away, a group of Texans formed an organization with political and commercial motives called the Texan Santa Fe Expedition. Their goal was to establish jurisdiction over the Santa Fe region, adding them to the Republic of Texas, and grabbing some of the Santa Fe Trail trade across Kansas for themselves.

Conspiracy theories anyone???
