Thousands of sod homes once dotted the Great Plains. As pioneer settlers migrated west, homes were built from the earth. Sod bricks were cut directly from the natural sod, whereas adobe bricks are molded out of earth and organic materials such as straw and manure. Both materials are labor intensive, but did not cost anything. Earthen bricks are used throughout the world where there is a shortage of lumber.

Name a country other than the United States that built with sod. Name another country that used adobe.
